Irish dance: It’s something most people don’t think of as a verb. In fact, most don’t even think of it as a way of life. What non-Irish dancers don’t understand is that it is a way of life. We bare pain, bruises, blisters, sweat, cramping feet, sore muscles, a pounding heart… The list goes on and on of what Irish dancers go through. But with this pain comes an incredible list of amazing benefits. We see the girls and guys we dance with so much that we just consider ourselves family. Our Irish dance school is our second family, our dance teacher our second parent. We all experience that feeling of wanting to win so badly that we’ll go through any amount of pain to get there. We all experience the feeling of being the champion of our own competition. We all are driven, dedicated, hard working, and passionate. We all care about each other. We’re athletes and artists. That’s something you won’t ever find except in dance. But especially Irish dance. It requires energy, stamina, and strength. Not only physically, but mentally as well. So yes, Irish dance is a sport. If you don’t think it is, then maybe you should try out a class. Then your mind will be changed.
Irish dance isn’t something I do. Irish dance is something I live. This is the definition of Irish dance.
Thank you so much!!! I am really eager!!! It looks like so much fun! I had problems finding my shoe size, because I don't really know my real shoe size, I'm either a 6, 7 or 8 in Australian sizes, my sizes change with different brands...it's so annoying!!! So it makes it hard finding my real size. I think I should buy a 5.5, if it's the wrong size, I will send them back.
Yeah, I am following irishdance! So, I am following 2 Irish Dance blogs now! I can't wait to start, I hope to buy some DVD's with Olive Hurley in them! I may just dance around my home town, because I can't enter competitions if I'm not in a school can I?
That sucks about the shoe size thing, ha. But yeah, unless you’re with a certified teacher, you can’t compete.
But I hope you have loads of fun with dance! It’s great. x
My name is Teasha and I am really desperately wanting to learn how to Irish Dance! I saw your blog and I had to follow you! It's awesome! I love Irish Dancing and I really want to start soon, but there are no schools where I live, so I have been forced to go solo and teach myself. Do you have any advice for me? I'm 19 by the way ;-/ I'm just starting out and really want to purchase a set of reel shoes soon!
That’s really great that you have the ambition! There’s a website called Diddlyi and they have a “learn” or “teach (something like that?) section. It costs a small fee, but it has lots of videos and the like. I personally have never been on it, but I’ve watched one of the videos, and it was pretty cool. Also, always get your shoes a size or two smaller than normal as they stretch.
I've gotta gush over this because I'm in a great mood.
So the dress I want. Oh my God. Ok. So it’s a purple velvet bodice and it has four rows of stones down the center in between silver lines. The neckline is gorgeous and is goldish-silverish satin with stoning and embroidery in purple and then back to purple velvet at the very neckline with silver embroidery and stoning. Then there’s more embroidery up the sleeves with stoning. The skirt’s the same goldish-silverish satin with stones and embroidery at the very bottom and then where it splits at the bodice is purple velvet with silver embroidery and stoning.
The girl from my school got a new dress for Worlds so she’s selling it and I want it cuz we’re close in height and size and whatever and I want it right now.
